About Us

Four nights on the Zambezi.
Time, beautifully spent.

Over four unhurried nights, guests are invited to settle in and shape their stay around what they need most. Days unfold between guided experiences on the river and in the bush, restorative moments in peaceful spaces, and long, quiet hours simply spent being. Whether your time is filled with exploring one of the world’s great natural wonders or with sunrises on horseback, slow river cruises and afternoons at leisure, Chundukwa offers a richer balance of gentle adventure and deep stillness.

This is a stay designed to linger — not to rush, but to restore — where nature sets the pace and every moment feels intentionally, beautifully unhurried.

At Chundukwa River Lodge, guests are free to choose their own rhythm — using the lodge as a base to explore nearby Victoria Falls, or as a peaceful sanctuary to slow down, reconnect and truly unwind. Set on the banks of the Zambezi River, Chundukwa offers a relaxed, farm-style atmosphere where family dogs wander the gardens and the stables remain at the heart of daily life. Surrounded by extraordinary birdlife and ever-changing river scenes, the lodge feels deeply rooted in nature. As evening falls, hippos often graze quietly across the lawns, and in the drier months, elephants pass through — gentle reminders that here, wilderness and comfort exist side by side.

  • Most guests arrive around midday at Livingstone Airport, where our driver will be waiting to transfer you to the lodge. Once you arrive, there’s time to settle in, review the adventures ahead and become familiar with your surroundings.

Enjoy a light lunch on the patio overlooking the river.

In the late afternoon, you’re invited to hop aboard our sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. This is where your Chundukwa journey truly begins — a gentle introduction to the rhythm of life on the river.

This evening, enjoy a private dining experience under thatch or beneath the stars.

  • Today you have full complimentary access to everything that is on offer in the historic and adventurous town of Livingstone.

Use this free opportunity to view Victoria Falls “on the Zambian-side”. It is all about discovery and wonder. Travel in a private vehicle with your own driver and guide, giving you complete freedom to explore at your own pace—no fixed departure times, no waiting, just the magic of Livingstone and the world’s largest waterfall unfolding on your schedule. Watch the water plummet over the edge from just a few feet behind the Eastern Cataract and cross the Knife Edge Bridge. At peak flow during the rainy season (roughly February to June), over 500 million litres (roughly 500,000 cubic meters) of water per minute plummet over Victoria Falls creating a billowing cloud of mist that reaches 200 metres high.
If you fancy a hike, walk down to the Boiling Pot at the base of the falls where the intensity of the Zambezi’s massive body of water is funnelled through a narrow gorge before flowing downstream.

Additional activities can be tailored to your interests on this day- and we will help you weave it altogether; from a guided walking safari in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park to see white rhino on foot, to a relaxed lunch cruise or a special dining experience at The Elephant Cafe.

In the low-water season, a visit to Livingstone Island is highly recommended. Cultural highlights may include the Livingstone Museum, Railway Museum and the Victoria Falls Bridge Museum and Bridge Tour. For lunch, choose from lively local cafés or enjoy a more refined setting.

This is our home as much as it is our work and our intimate knowledge of the area ensures your day is seamless, effortless, and deeply memorable. Every suggestion, every route, every moment is chosen to help you experience Victoria Falls in a way that feels personal, unhurried and uniquely yours.

  • Today is a wonderful day to cross into Zimbabwe for a guided visit to the iconic Victoria Falls. Start early, as border formalities can be busy, then meet your private guide and explore the rainforest trails inside Victoria Falls National Park. From a series of dramatic viewpoints along the gorge, you’ll gain a true sense of the Falls’ epic scale - nearly 1,700 metres of thundering whitewater plunging into the Batoka Gorge. Highlights include the wild spray of Devil’s Cataract, the precarious perch of Danger Point and the awe-inspiring Main Falls, the largest single curtain of falling water in the world.

After your guided walk, enjoy some time exploring Victoria Falls town. Browse colourful curio markets, discover locally made crafts and artworks in small galleries, or relax over lunch at one of the town’s charming cafés or restaurants.

In the afternoon, return across the border to Livingstone and back to the lodge, where the tranquil flow of the Zambezi River offers a peaceful contrast to the morning’s thunderous spectacle. The remainder of the day is yours to relax — perhaps with a cool drink on the deck as the river drifts quietly past.

Please note: A visit to the Zimbabwean side of the Falls is optional as a half-day or full-day excursion. Passports are required and visas may be necessary —please check with us in advance. Crossing is via the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, and we recommend arranging your KAZA UNIVISA ahead of time where possible.

  • A day to shape exactly as you wish — a true day at leisure. Do as little or as much as you like, letting the rhythm of the river set the pace. You might spend the morning simply soaking in the views from your deck, listening to the birds and watching life drift by on the Zambezi. Or, if you feel inspired to explore, there are many ways to experience the landscape and community around the lodge.

Ride out on a gentle horse trail from our stables, wander through the bush on a guided walking safari, or enjoy a leisurely floating river picnic — a wonderfully relaxed way to spend time on the water.

You may also wish to connect more deeply with the local community. Visit the nearby village of Muke or spend time at Nakawa School with The Chundukwa Foundation, where guests are warmly welcomed to see the projects supported by the lodge.

For those wanting to make a hands-on contribution, you could even volunteer for the day — assisting at the school or spending time with the team from Zambezi Animal Welfare Services (ZAWS), learning about the work being done to support the surrounding communities.

However you choose to spend it — doing nothing at all or filling the day with adventure and connection — this is your time to enjoy Chundukwa at your own pace.

  • On your final morning, wake up in your own time, Sleep in or do an early morning activity followed by brekkie and transfer.

enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the lodge awakens with the soft light of dawn. Take in the serenity of the Zambezi one last time on a tranquil sunrise cruise. When it’s time to depart, we’ll transfer you back to Livingstone Airport or meet your driver for your onward journey, carrying with you the memories of a restorative stay.

From us, it’s goodbye — until we meet again. Twalumba.

At Chundukwa River Lodge, our journey has been anything but ordinary. From the very beginning, every step we’ve taken has been guided by a simple promise: to stay true to our values and to create something meaningful, not rushed, not shallow — but thoughtful and lasting.

Chundukwa is not just a place to stay; it is a reflection of what we believe in. A belief in quiet luxury, in genuine connection, in the beauty of small details done with great care. Here, quality is never accidental — it is the result of shared purpose, deep respect for our environment, and a commitment to offering experiences that truly matter.

We welcome our guests not just into a lodge, but into a story shaped by intention, heart and a love for this stretch of the Zambezi. Every sunrise, every meal, every moment by the river is part of that story — and we are proud to share it with those who come seeking something real.
