About Us

Three nights. One iconic river. Endless reasons to exhale.

Over three nights, guests are invited to shape their stay around what they need most: guided experiences on the river and in nature, quiet moments in restorative spaces and unhurried time simply to be. Whether you spend your days discovering one of the world’s great natural wonders or drifting through sunrises, horse trails and river cruises, Chundukwa offers a balance of gentle adventure and deep stillness.

This is a stay designed not to rush, but to restore — where nature sets the rhythm and every moment feels intentionally unhurried.

Chundukwa River Lodge is a place you can use as a base to explore Victoria Falls — or as a sanctuary to slow down, reconnect and return to yourself. We offer a relaxed farm-style stay on the banks of the Zambezi River, where family dogs roam the gardens and stables sit at the heart of the property. Extraordinary birdlife and river activity surround the lodge, creating a constant sense of connection to nature. At night, hippos often graze quietly through the grounds, and in the drier months, elephants are frequent visitors — gentle reminders that this is a place where wilderness and comfort meet.

  • Most guests arrive from midday at Livingstone Airport, where our driver will be waiting to bring you to the lodge. Once you arrive, we take time to settle in, review the adventures ahead and get comfortable in your surroundings.

‍Late afternoon, you are welcome to hop onboard our Sunset Cruise. This is where your Chundukwa journey begins — a gentle introduction to the rhythm of life on the Zambezi.

This evening, enjoy a private dining experience under thatch or under the stars!

  • Today you have full complimentary access to everything that is on offer in the historic and adventurous town of Livingstone. Use this free opportunity to view Victoria Falls “on the Zambian-side”. It is all about discovery and wonder.

Travel in a private vehicle with your own driver and guide, giving you complete freedom to explore at your own pace—no fixed departure times, no waiting, just the magic of Livingstone and the world’s largest waterfall unfolding on your schedule. Watch the water plummet over the edge from just a few feet behind the Eastern Cataract and cross the Knife Edge Bridge. At peak flow during the rainy season (roughly February to June), over 500 million litres (roughly 500,000 cubic meters) of water per minute plummet over Victoria Falls creating a billowing cloud of mist that reaches 200 metres high.
If you fancy a hike, walk down to the Boiling Pot at the base of the falls where the intensity of the Zambezi’s massive body of water is funnelled through a narrow gorge before flowing downstream.

Additional activities can be tailored to your interests on this day- and we will help you weave it altogether; from a guided walking safari in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park to see white rhino on foot, to a relaxed lunch cruise or a special dining experience at The Elephant Cafe.

In the low-water season, we can escort you across to the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls on this day. Or avoid border formalities and go to Livingstone Island which is highly recommended!

This is our home as much as it is our work and our intimate knowledge of the area ensures your day is seamless, effortless, and deeply memorable. Every suggestion, every route, every moment is chosen to help you experience Victoria Falls in a way that feels personal, unhurried and uniquely yours.

  • Morning Recommendation: Rhino Walk with Livingstone Walking Safaris

We recommend beginning the day with a guided walk in Mosi Oat Tunya National Park — a remarkable opportunity to track these magnificent animals on foot and learn about the conservation efforts protecting them.

    Afternoon: In-House Activities & Leisure

The remainder of the day is yours to shape exactly as you wish — a true day at leisure. Do as little or as much as you like, letting the rhythm of the river set the pace.

You may choose to spend the afternoon simply soaking in the views from your deck, listening to the birds and watching life drift by on the Zambezi. Or, if you feel inspired to explore, there are many ways to experience the landscape and community around the lodge.

Ride out on a gentle horse trail from our stables, wander through the bush on a guided walking safari, or enjoy a leisurely floating river picnic — a wonderfully relaxed way to spend time on the water.

You may also wish to connect more deeply with the local community. Visit the nearby village of Muke or spend time at Nakawa School with The Chundukwa Foundation, where guests are warmly welcomed to see the projects supported by the lodge.

For those wanting to make a hands-on contribution, you could even volunteer for the day — assisting at the school or spending time with the team from Zambezi Animal Welfare Services (ZAWS), learning about the important work being done to support surrounding communities.

However you choose to spend it — doing nothing at all or filling the day with adventure and connection — this is your time to enjoy Chundukwa at your own pace.

  • On your final morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the lodge awakens with the soft light of dawn. Take in the serenity of the Zambezi one last time on a tranquil sunrise cruise. When it’s time to depart, we’ll transfer you back to Livingstone Airport or meet your driver for your onward journey, carrying with you the memories of a restorative stay.

From us, it’s goodbye — until we meet again. Twalumba.

At Chundukwa River Lodge, our journey has been anything but ordinary. From the very beginning, every step we’ve taken has been guided by a simple promise: to stay true to our values and to create something meaningful, not rushed, not shallow — but thoughtful and lasting.

Chundukwa is not just a place to stay; it is a reflection of what we believe in. A belief in quiet luxury, in genuine connection, in the beauty of small details done with great care. Here, quality is never accidental — it is the result of shared purpose, deep respect for our environment, and a commitment to offering experiences that truly matter.

We welcome our guests not just into a lodge, but into a story shaped by intention, heart and a love for this stretch of the Zambezi. Every sunrise, every meal, every moment by the river is part of that story — and we are proud to share it with those who come seeking something real.
